It’s a momentous day for Noble Foods Ltd cage-free conversion project today.
The pullets reared on the UK’s first Unistart system at Hilltop have been moved into the high-welfare Veranda Aviary 2 laying unit at Longbelt.
The pullets are settling in well - mainly because they have been perfectly trained to find their way around the multi-tier Veranda Aviary 2 laying system thanks to the three-dimensional spatial awareness acquired during their time on the Unistart rearing system.
A former colony cage site, Longbelt was divided into 3 completely independent floors, allowing Noble to supply high-welfare barn eggs, fulfilling the consumer demand for a non-cage value egg.
The Longbelt project was extremely deadline-sensitive as the birds were being reared at Hilltop during the allocated build time, but with some fantastic cooperation between the various suppliers (Vencomatic Group, Collinson, Hato, Hotraco, PSHiggins) the project was complete, commissioned and the building ready to receive the pullets in time.
